Affordable disposal Just £39 to responsibly dispose of your old mattress

A simple click on the ‘Old mattress removal’ button when you checkout your new purchase at MattressNextDay means that we will provide a mattress collection service and will dispose of it responsibly. Using our mattress collection service ensures that your old mattress is not one of the 8 million that goes to landfill every year.

Please note: for health and hygiene reasons, we don't accept soiled mattresses.

Recycling made easy 100% of your mattress is reused and recycled

We recycle every part of your mattress, ensuring nothing goes to waste. Each mattress is broken down into its components, which are then sent off to industries that can benefit from these raw materials. Steel from the springs, wool, cotton fillings and even the cushioning material all have a new life.

Quick and hassle-free for you A greener way to get rid of your old mattress

As we all try to reduce the amount of rubbish we send to landfill, responsible mattress disposal plays an important part in minimising our impact on the planet. We deconstruct each mattress from the outside in, and the materials end up in a wide range of products, from home insulation to car manufacturing.

Why recycle your mattress Let’s make the world a better place
Landfill icon 8 million in landfill

Millions of old mattresses end up in landfill sites every year due to fly-tipping. Therefore, only 16% of disposed mattresses in the UK are recycled.

Mattress new life icon Give your mattress a new life

Recycled mattresses are usually disassembled into components that are transferred to various factories in order to be reused.

Reduce C02 icon Reduce pollution

Mattress chemicals cause ground pollution in the environment as well as having toxic effects on animals and plants.

FAQs Common recycling questions
Can you throw out an old mattress?

Discarded mattresses dumped at the side of the road are a blight on the UK’s countryside. Equally, burning them, leaving them in a skip or cutting them up and bagging them up with the household rubbish only causes more environmental issues. The truth is that many mattresses have recyclable components that can be reused rather than just thrown away.

Your local rubbish or recycling centre may take old mattresses, but it’s best to check first. Alternatively, we can offer a recycling or mattress disposal service when you order a new mattress from us.

How to dispose of a mattress

There are four ways to dispose of a mattress:

Recycling – Check your local gov.uk website, which will list recycling centres in your area and if they accept mattresses.

Selling – If your mattress is in good condition, it may be possible to sell it on. Clean it thoroughly before putting it up for sale. Local marketplaces such as Facebook Marketplace, Gumtree, Preloved, and eBay are good for selling mattresses.

Replacing – When you order a new mattress with MattressNextDay, we can take away your old mattress and carefully dispose of it. We’ll recycle as much as we can to reduce the amount going to landfill.

Donating – Charities, especially those that help the homeless, are always happy to receive good quality mattresses. Check out your local charity shops (not all will take large items such as mattresses), or contact major charitable organisations such as the Salvation Army, Shelter, and the British Red Cross. They may have a collection service in your area, which would make donating your mattress even easier.

When can you collect my mattress?

When you buy a mattress from us, we’ll arrange for delivery at your convenience. If you’d like us to take your old mattress away, you can organise that to coincide with your delivery time.

How should I prepare my mattress for collection?

You don’t have to do anything. Just ensure that your mattress is easily accessible, and our friendly team will do the rest for you.

Can you dispose of more than one mattress?

If you buy a mattress from MattressNextDay, we can take your old mattress and dispose of it safely. We cannot take away more than one mattress for each new mattress delivered.
